Challenges

Posted in Recent projects at 3:46 am

A couple of recent projects. The first was a “late arrival” for Julee’s sketch challenge, but I loved the sketch so much just had to try it with this circle stamp featuring a fish from Impression-Obsession. Stamped image with Black Stazon and then colored with pencils and Gamsol. Highlighted with Stickles on the bubbles and a little Sakura glitter pen. Layered image on scallop punched turquoise, then orange, then a Technique Tuesday scallop tile covered with turquoise craft ink (SU). I used some scrap patterned paper and can’t remember the name for the background. Three orange eyelets from SU on bottom left corner. Turned out rather bright and cheerful - sending to my brother in Florida.

This next sample was using Linnecard’s sketch challenge 056. I used some Paper Salon “Serenity” pattern paper for the background, punched circles and flowers. The monogram was stamped using Technique Tuesday “Senendipity” Capital Letters and embossed with white EP, then cut out and popped with dimensional dots.

Happy Mother’s Day

Above is the card I made for my mom this Mother’s Day.

I talked to my mom on the phone this Saturday morning - like I always do each and every Saturday morning. That is our designated time for each other. We now live a great distance from each other - she in Kentucky and me in Idaho. We have less than a year before she moves back to Idaho, but still Saturday mornings have always been our talking time. Of course we talk other times during the week but since we both get up before the crack of dawn (yes, even on the weekends) this is our time before our households are buzzing.

It’s been challenging and a little more difficult since she left Idaho over a year ago. One of the challenges has been to be more of a planner - like I have to remember more than one week in advance of special occasions like her birthday, Mother’s Day, etc because I have to get to the post office and can’t just go pick up then deliver on the special day.

While talking this morning she said her package had arrived. I put a great deal of thought in this purchase and it stirred many memories of her and my dad. I sent her a bottle of her favorite perfume - Shalimar. My dad always used to buy this for her - it was and on very special occasions is still her signature. I can always tell when she is around - the scent and aroma. We are also approaching the 15 year mark of my Dad’s passing (he passed quickly on Memorial Day weekend 1992).

I fondly remember my four younger brothers and me as children - doing so many things as a family - celebrating, helping each other, camping, attending each other’s sports events, and yes, even the sibling quarels. I usually prevailed being the oldest and only girl.

My parents were so happy to find out that I was having my first child in 1983. They prayed, wished, and prayed some more that I would have a daughter. To bring me the same challenges (and joys) I supposedly gave my parents in raising me. I have been doubly blessed with two girls, Courtney 23 and Carly 16.

I appreciate the role model my mother demonstrated through thick and thin. When we were children often things were very lean. I know she sacrificed and was very thrifty so she could save the money needed for each of our activities - the costs of having 5 children. I thank my mother and publically acknowledge my love and sincere appreciation for all she has done for me, my four brothers and each of our families.  I love you mom.

Details for the card.  Stamped script background with SU in sage.  Then placed the Heidi Swapp mask (bird and branch) over the script and used Ranger Adirondack Spray Wash Espresso to cover, gently and quickly lifted the mask and let dry.  Once dry used Fancy Pants “Pollen Dust” flourish stamp in the Essential Glue pad, sprinkled with some of that new Martha Stewart glitter - love it!  Tied a simple sage ribbon and matted onto sage.  I really like the look and feel of this card.

Thanks for letting me ramble and looking.  I will be enjoying my Mother’s Day.  Lila

Design Team - I was selected!

Posted in Recent projects at 6:14 pm

So in my previous post I indicated that I had submitted for a design team - Linnecards had a DT call - I submitted my projects and guess what? I’m a new DT team member. I wanted to share a couple of the projects I submitted for consideration to the team. This first project was done using this darling little boy Mason (my friend-Cassandra’s son). blog-8×8-adventure.jpg

I used Technique Tuesday “Buggin Out” and “Petal Pushers” stamp sets. The layout is 8X8 done on Chatterbox patterned paper. For the tree branch across the top I used a Heidi Swapp mask and traced onto brown cardstock then Exacto knife to cut and trim. I then used the “Petal Pushers” leaf stamped with ColorBox fluid chalk ink trimed and glued to branch. Flowers are from Prima and attached with Stampin Up brads. For the “Bugs” I stamped with Black Stazon and colored with blender pen and reinkers. The bugs are on dimensional pop dots. I love how it turned out. The title was done with Making Memories rub-ons.

This second sample was a Provo Craft tin I decorated and filled with various cards. I loved the paper - it is from Piggy Tales. Various ribbons but the majority was from American Crafts - seemed to match perfectly. Below are a couple of cards that filled the tin.

Happy Everything

Posted in Recent projects at 6:07 pm

Today’s sample was created for two challenges - one challenge was for Caardvarks (even got it in on time). The challenge was to use felt. Well if you know me at all I really don’t use fabric on my projects except for ribbon, ribbon, or ribbon. At first I wasn’t going to participate but found these awesome felt flowers (American Crafts-Greenhouse) at Archivers for 50% off -what the heck - I liked to colors too. Took them home and matched them up with Chatterbox paper and ribbons. Now how to attach to the card??? Well, again if you know me I don’t sew - except on occasion for papercraft projects - the solution was French knots where I used Scrapworks waxed flax for the stitch. Sentiment stamped with Stampin Up and dark brown ink.

The second challenge was for a design team - the card I sent them didn’t have the sentiment…. ooops I forgot… oh well. Enjoy and Happy Everything!
